Senior Sustainability Manager


Our client need Senior Sustainability Managers to help deliver large data centre projects, one of which is in Holland & the other in Denmark.

Most urgent will be the Amsterdam site, they need someone to start in November. 
 
The principal objective for the Senior Sustainability Manager is to deliver the end clients requirements - to make sure this project delivers a sizable contribution towards their sustainability targets. 
 
Current targets

  • Corporate carbon reduction - 10% year-on-year
  • Client carbon reduction - 1million tonnes by 2026
  • Biodiversity Net Gain - 500ha by 2026
 Additional responsibilities will include
  • Promoting innovation, best practice, new ideas and transfer knowledge across the business 
  • Ensure the environmental reporting and compliance requirements are met in the most business efficient manner 
  • Support work winning through bid support, client liaison & upskilling of colleagues 
 The person will have the following accountabilities & attributes 
  • Successfully lead and support the implementation of the Environmental Management Systems (EMS), including implementation of Environmental Risk Assessment Tools and ‘Optimise’ (Mace’s bespoke online KPI software) 
  • Strong understanding of LEED and practical experience in delivering the certification
  • Expertise in EMS training and communication on EMS – able to coach and communicate in simple, impactful ways, including translation and education of the group strategy and annual goals for each area
  • Be a focal point for technical support and help desk and able to troubleshoot
  • Be able to translate technical topics into laypersons language and articulate the value of sustainability
  • Be able to represent the client at relevant forums and through presentations to clients and working groups
  • Champion sustainability and be a leader, encouraging behavioural change throughout the business
  • Common purchasing – drive for business efficiency by working with other internal stakeholders and seeking as appropriate standardizing purchasing processes. This may involve negotiating nation-wide deals with suppliers and moving the reporting requirements to the suppliers.
  • Reporting and compliance dimensions (eg Waste, Materials, Carbon & Energy, Biodiversity, Water)
  • Responsible for interfacing with internal stakeholders and suppliers to negotiate optimal business agreements for common purchasing
  • Lead local community initiatives and build key relationships with local stakeholders to ensure the project delivers increases social value i.e volunteering, school programs and promoting apprentices
  • Ability to speak the local language and an understanding of local legislation and working practices 
 Qualifications required
  • BSc in a relevant science or construction subject
  • IEMA or similar professional body
